Forum Title: Safety and Durability
I'm getting so discouraged shopping for carpet. One sales guy is pushing a Matthews and Parlo poly fiber carpet, the Mohawk rep is talking about Smartstrand like it's a religion. And another wholesale gal showed me straight to the Stainmaster (nylon) products. Then after the Mohawk rep gave her sermon about the Rhino and bio-friendly Smartstrand, the wholesale gal showed me a more resonably priced Mohawk, Aladdin, Tropical Resort, 84.82 oz, 1/8 guage carpet. Which is fine. But then I start reading all these terrible reviews about Smartstrand showing traffic patterns prematurely and looking soiled. This carpet will go on my stairs (which will wear quicker anyway) by the front upstairs hallway and my kids rooms. So, I'm concerned about durability. I do like the safety aspect of the stain repellent not wearing off (onto my babies hands, which go in their mouths). Sounds like nylon fiber is more durable in the long haul, but I don't like the thought of stain repellent chemicals wearing off onto my kiddos. Thoughts and advice? Please and thank you!

Nylon, or wool if you can afford it. A good dense nylon will hold up for many years.

I would have to agree with Kyle. The two words to pay attention too are nylon and dense. I would add that color plays a important role too! Weed out any garbage that anyone says about bio friendly, green, earthy, planet healthy, save the world, save the planet etc. Just tell them to go smoke their pot without exhaling That should piss them off

Is a high/low loop cut, Berber, something other than plush cut pile in style anymore or is everyone stuck on the fiber? The DIY guy Fl(Florida)? Has a good pitch, also if what he's saying about the stain resistance being built in to the product verse sprayed on, that sounds better. Sounds like I need some more updating on these miracle fibers.
