Forum Title: Mohawk SmartSrand Silk v. Polyester
Hi, I was looking at Mohawk Gentle Essence Carpet with SmartSrand Silk Triexta. My carpet retailer suggested Dream Weaver Pure Soft Cashmere Polyester as a less expensive alternative. I wouldn't have very heavy traffic (no pets or children) and moderate sunlight. I was wondering whether anyone might have some thoughts as to whether either would a better choice? Thanks, Tom

I've been away from the game long enough not to have first-hand experience with either specific product, but polyester has had a poor reputation for matting and showing traffic patterns for as long as I can remember. Smartstrand fibers have come a long way and have proven to be superior to polyesters of the same thickness and density. We have members who have much more up-to-date information than I do, but I think the majority of them will agree that Smartstrand would be a better choice. I wouldn't hesitate to install it in a bedroom, but I still prefer nylons in rooms that get heavier traffic. Jim

The smartstrand is super nice and I think you would be happier with it long term.
